The Commission

From four details to something framed

It takes less from you than people expect. Four small facts are usually enough to begin, and the whole thing happens in three steps.

I.

You tell the story

Four small things are all I need to begin:

  • How you met, or how you know them
  • What makes them laugh
  • A date that matters
  • One detail nobody else would think to mention

Send them in an email, or we can talk it through. In English, in Polish, or both.

II.

The poem is written

The first version is sent to you within days. We then refine it together until every line sounds like you rather than like me. One round of revisions is included.

III.

It becomes a keepsake

Your poem arrives beautifully set and ready for a card, a vow book, a frame, or your own stationer. It can also be printed through one of Szept's studio partners.

Questions

Frequently asked

How long does it take?

The first version is usually ready within a few days. For weddings and larger occasions I would recommend allowing two to three weeks, so there is time to refine the piece properly.

What if it does not sound right?

One round of revisions is included in every commission. If a line does not sit well with you, it is rewritten until it does.

Do the poems rhyme?

Most commissions are written in rhyme, because a rhymed line is far easier to remember. Free verse is available on request.

Can it be in Polish?

Yes. A commission can be written in English, in Polish, or as a mirrored pair in both languages, which many bilingual families choose.

Who owns the poem?

You do. Every bespoke piece is written exclusively for you and is never reused, sold or published elsewhere without your permission.

What does it cost?

Pricing depends on the length of the piece and the occasion. A clear quotation is provided before any work begins, and there is no charge for an enquiry.
